With the recent arrival of two new topics for Season 4.3 of SPARK, it’s time to take a look back on some of our favorite submissions from Season 4.2: #bringItToLife and #theNatureofStrandberg!
#bringItToLife: Breathe new life into something that needs it! Photoshop faces onto household objects, animate the inanimate, etc. — whatever you do, make it lively!
#theNatureOfStrandberg: Au .naturel! Reorder natural materials to resemble a .strandberg, discover a ‘berg in the wild, bring #goheadless back to its “roots”, etc. (no .strandberg* required — get creative!)
Denis Sapegin
One of the most creative submissions for the #theNatureofStrandberg was done by Denis Sapegin and features this microscopic Boden, impossibly woven into the pores of a biometric membrane. Yeah, it’s pretty wild what Denis has done here, and as he says, “I guess it is the tiniest .strandberg* of all you have ever seen”.
From Denis:
“The nature is beautifull even at the tiniest levels. The shape of pores on this scanning electron microphotograph of butterfly wing-inspired biomimetic semi-permeable membranes obtained as a part of my PhD project resembled the strandberg curves a lot. Just felt right to put it there – I guess it is the tiniest strandberg of all you have ever seen.”

Anıl Bahşi
Another entry for #theNatureOfStrandberg that we simply couldn’t get enough of was this Sälen mock-up with an amazing nature-inspired finish by Anıl BahÅŸi. The patterns, the colors, the realism — all excellent. Nicely done, Anıl!

Sávio Rocha Almeida
One of the craziest entries yet for #theNatureOfStrandberg was this “EcoBerg”, AKA 3D render by Sávio Rocha Almeida of a wildly (emphasis on “wild“) custom Varberg! This is not Sávio’s first time 3D-modeling headless guitars so clearly he’s got things pretty dialed in at this point. Very impressive work that also made us do a double-take!

Mugi Prayitno
Another fantastic #theNatureOfStrandberg entry was this design by illustrator Mugi Prayitno of the Boden Plini Edition beautifully displayed underneath a climbing koala! As Mugi mentions, this is a really nice blend of Australian imagery and we think they did a wonderful job.
From Mugi:
“I’m illustrator (t-shirt designer, cover album, etc) i have a dream to make t-shirt or cover album for my favorite artist like Plini. And when this theme came out this idea sudenly came, a Koala and Strandberg just perfect representation of Plini and also this theme on my own way. I share the colored and the lineart version. Thank you.”

Mark Purney
Yet another submission for the topic #theNatureOfStrandberg, Mark Purney created these whimsical little .strandberg*-shaped butterflies, with wings made from Boden Prog NX 7s in Twilight Purple! According to Mark, “The rare Butterprog takes flight, shortly after shredding its way out of the cocoon”.

Sávio Rocha Almeida
For the topic #bringItToLife, we have another entry from the talented Sávio Rocha Almeida, this time with a living Boden guitar! That’s right, we’re not sure how he did it but we’re totally blown away. The video will speak for itself, so check it out down below and see what Sávio had to say about it.
From Sávio:
“Entry Video Title: Schrödinger’s Flies. An abstraction based on Schrödinger’s Cat paradox, about being alive and dead simultaneously. Guitars are made of “dead” materia(wood), but once the strings vibrate it’s also live.”

Ray Edwards
While not submitted for the purpose of being registered, we couldn’t help but count this piece by Ray Edwards for the topic #bringItToLife, with his stunning custom painted Boden body, depicting a woman’s face. Beautiful colors, great artistry, and a nice job applying it to the body. Well done, Ray!
About the piece, Ray says:
“.Strandberg* Boden six string. I did one like this for the Fender C.S. W/ John Cruz Namm 2020 And decided to do one for myself!”

Steve Yates
And last but certainly not least, we got a kick out of this submission by Steve Yates for the topic #theNatureOfStrandberg which features some wild .strandberg* DinoBergs roaming the wild plains. Perhaps .strandbergs* have been around longer than we thought…
From Steve:
“I got thinking about #thenatureofstrandberg today. And about seeing a Strandberg in nature. I remember the awe I felt when I first saw one. Unbelievable that something so perfectly organic and ergonomic had taken 50 years of bass evolution to happen. Then I released, it was the same feeling Dr. Grant had at Jurassic Park when he first saw the dinosaurs. And maybe, just maybe the Strandbergs have existed for millions of years and we only just rediscovered them…. (copyright claims not withstanding)… And yes, I am terrible with image manipulation. I’m a bassist not an artist!”

And with that, this is the end of our recap of Season 4.2! We hope you enjoyed these submissions as much as we did, and don’t forget to submit your creations for the latest topics: #changeYourPerspective and #spottedInTheWild!
