Sälen Deluxe Vintage Burst

Sälen Deluxe Vintage Burst

SKU: SL6CT-18D-M-F-VB

The Sälen is the .strandberg* take on the legendary first solidbody electric guitar from the 1950’s: not a mere copy of this iconic guitar that changed the history of music but a thoughtful and innovative design that balances the best of the tried-and-true traditional with the thoroughly modern concepts that our guitars are known for. The Sälen is at once familiar and strikingly bold, vintage and futuristic, yesterday and tomorrow.

Sonically and tactile response-wise, the Sälen Deluxe models will provide nice warmth and roundness due to the chambered body and make the bridge pickup less piercing on the high notes so there’d be no need to roll back the tone knob. The chambered Alder/Maple body Deluxe has a great middle pickup sound while the solidbody Classic Trans Butterscotch has a beautiful snap due to the Ash body and Maple board combo while the Classic Ice Blue Metallic exhibits the same type of snap but with a little fuller sound due to its Alder body and Pau Ferro fretboard.

What makes it special?

The Sälen is the .strandberg* take on the legendary first solidbody electric guitar from the 1950’s: not a mere copy of this iconic guitar that changed the history of music but a thoughtful and innovative design that balances the best of the tried-and-true traditional with the thoroughly modern concepts that our guitars are known for. The Sälen is at once familiar and strikingly bold, vintage and futuristic, yesterday and tomorrow.

What does it do?

To get this natural organic character to the amplifier clearly and faithfully without compromise, the Sälen features the Suhr Classic T Bridge and Neck pickups. These pickups are amongst the most acclaimed in the industry for providing the characteristics of the best vintage pickups while taming other less desirable artifacts like too much treble or not enough output. The result is a full yet biting and raunchy bridge pickup and a warm and smooth neck pickup that provide a surprisingly wide range of great sounds with both clean and overdriven amp settings.

Who is it for?

The inspiration from which the Sälen sprouted from sparked a musical revolution that still resonates today, and we sought to take this inspiration to a new level of look, functionality, ergonomics, sound and playability. Incorporating our lightweight headless design, multi-scale fanned frets, the patented EndurNeck, and aerospace-grade hardware, you get all of the features that a Strandberg guitar is acclaimed for but also with the look and sound that conjures up the glorious eras of guitar-driven music, from classic rock to pop and country to jazz.

During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. Full expression without struggle.

I own Tom Anderson Classic-T and Suhr guitars (one of them the fantastic Andy Wood Tele with HH setup) I have owned Fender's, Gibson's etc. The "Sälen" is in it's own league. My fellow musicians indeed has an issue with the looks and maybe 1 or 2 people in the audience. But the playability, the sound and the smooth, expression-able, buttery feel of this awesome Tele-ish guitar is washing out any doubts from myself. It's a keeper. My other fantastic guitars is still as good, but after a few hours with a Strandberg, they certainly feel a bit clumpsy. It's not their fault, it's just a very different and playable experience with the Sälen.

A great company to deal with

In addition to playing guitar I am also a woodworker and I just didn't like the figure of the wood on this guitar. They took it back and paid for the return shipping with no questions asked! I then purchased a red original and it is spectacular, both the sound and the amount of figure in the maple top. I just wish they would consider a high gloss finish. The satin/semi-gloss finish just doesn't pop as much as a high gloss would. Anyway, I'm sure this won't be my last Strandberg!

My First .strandberg*

My guitar arrived in perfect cosmetic condition despite a large dent in the back side of the shipping box. The low E string buzzez quite a lot, but I suppose that’s due to the climate change after shipping from CA to CT. I’ll need to learn how to fix that. Otherwise sounds good to my ears.

Stunning!

I needed some vintage tones for a recording project as I usually play 7 string Bodens. The Sälen immediately became my favourite 6 stringer. Sounds great, versatile & vintage but with modern feel & playability. Setup to perfection and build quality is insane.
