Sälen Classic Trans Butterscotch

Sälen Classic Trans Butterscotch

SKU: SL6CT-18C-M-S-TB

The Sälen is the .strandberg* take on the legendary first solidbody electric guitar from the 1950’s: not a mere copy of this iconic guitar that changed the history of music but a thoughtful and innovative design that balances the best of the tried-and-true traditional with the thoroughly modern concepts that our guitars are known for. The Sälen is at once familiar and strikingly bold, vintage and futuristic, yesterday and tomorrow.

Sonically and tactile response-wise, the chambered Alder/Maple body Deluxe has a great middle pickup sound while the solidbody Classic Trans Butterscotch has a beautiful snap due to the Ash body and Maple board combo while the Classic Ice Blue Metallic exhibits the same type of snap but with a little fuller sound due to its Alder body and Pau Ferro fretboard. The Sälen Deluxe models will provide nice warmth and roundness due to the chambered body and make the bridge pickup less piercing on the high notes so there’d be no need to roll back the tone knob.

What makes it special?

The Sälen is the .strandberg* take on the legendary first solidbody electric guitar from the 1950’s: not a mere copy of this iconic guitar that changed the history of music but a thoughtful and innovative design that balances the best of the tried-and-true traditional with the thoroughly modern concepts that our guitars are known for. The Sälen is at once familiar and strikingly bold, vintage and futuristic, yesterday and tomorrow.

What does it do?

To get this natural organic character to the amplifier clearly and faithfully without compromise, the Sälen features the Suhr Classic T Bridge and Neck pickups. These pickups are amongst the most acclaimed in the industry for providing the characteristics of the best vintage pickups while taming other less desirable artifacts like too much treble or not enough output. The result is a full yet biting and raunchy bridge pickup and a warm and smooth neck pickup that provide a surprisingly wide range of great sounds with both clean and overdriven amp settings.

Who is it for?

The inspiration from which the Sälen sprouted from sparked a musical revolution that still resonates today, and we sought to take this inspiration to a new level of look, functionality, ergonomics, sound and playability. Incorporating our lightweight headless design, multi-scale fanned frets, the patented EndurNeck, and aerospace-grade hardware, you get all of the features that a Strandberg guitar is acclaimed for but also with the look and sound that conjures up the glorious eras of guitar-driven music, from classic rock to pop and country to jazz.

During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. Best T-style in the bizz

Well, after buying a Boden Prog 6 and Metal 6, it was time for a Salen. I bought this one because I really like the old blackguard tele's, and this one came perfect, perfectly setup for me, just a perfect tool and addition to my Strandberg family! Happy to be a part of the Strandberg users and lovers, 3 Strandbergs in one year, not bad at all. Thank you Ola!

Couldn’t Recommend These Guitars Enough

As expected, excellent guitar. If you’re on the fence about one, just do it. Plays amazing, sounds amazing. Nothing else feels quite like a Strandberg and the only way you’ll truly find out is getting one in your hands.

Perfect sound and slightly regrettable QC

The sound of Salen classic is amazing. For me as a beginner, this is my first advanced Guitar and first Strandberg. I really like its sound, and the good ergonomics makes my playing more relaxed and comfortable. I can be sure that this will not be my last Strandberg. But in the same way, the slightly regrettable QC also made me a little bit sad. Of course, there is no quality problem at all, but it cannot withstand detailed viewing. The rough screws, the slightly scratched body, and the uneven neck made me surprised. I haven't played a lot of guitars, but these flaws really make me very confused at this price. I hope Strandberg can do better. I really love headless guitars.

An absolute joy.

This is my first Strandberg guitar. I have been playing guitar for over 45 years an I must say this guitar is an absolute joy to play. Very much worth the price in comparison to other guitars in the same range. The resonancy and direct physical response is inviting one to keep playing, as well is the weight and the comfort of the overall design. In my opinion the Sälen is the most beautiful model and covers a vast range of sounds and styles. If ever I would want another Strandberg it would be the Sälen jazz model because of the pickup configuration and additional sounds. The only minor thing is the small dots on the fretboard which make it a bit challenging sometimes depending on the technique at hand , this can easily be overcome by some stickered dots. Apparently I am not the only one as can be seen in f.e. several Tory Slusher video's ( could be a custom neck also ? ) I highly recommend these excellent guitars to anyone considering one! Greetings, Erik H

My first Strandberg….. Many more to come!

I absolutely LOVE my new Salen Classic. I was always skeptical at first with Strandberg (Due to price), given the other headless instruments that are now more readily available at a lower price. But, once the Salen Classic in Trans Butterscotch was in stock, with only 2 available, I decided I just had to pull the trigger. Out of the 10+ guitars I own, I now can’t put it down. The EndurNeck, along with the Roasted Maple finish and SS frets has to be the MOST comfortable neck I have EVER played on. Due to the pandemic, I started to play guitar a bit more again, as I had just become a collector at this point. And this instrument really has made me fall in love with playing guitar again. I have an 8 String Kiesel Vanquish now that I love, but after playing this Strandberg for a few days, a Boden 8 is next on my list. The quality is impeccable and definitely worth the price.
