Boden RESQ:D Canvas Neon Swirl

Boden RESQ:D Canvas Neon Swirl

SKU: BD6TCT-04R-M-S-04-neon-swirl

The .strandberg* RESQ:D models are sustainability models developed to “rescue” guitar bodies with natural wood blemishes from being scrapped. These blemishes are often discovered after the milling process during production and, instead of scrapping the bodies, they are painted and offered at a lower price to provide all the features and benefits that .strandberg* guitars are acclaimed for.

David’s finish is an adaptation of the classic marbling techniques as featured on many guitars back in the 80s. Being a huge fan of the original Steve Vai Ibanez signatures that featured the swirl finish, and coming fresh from his work with Ibanez PIA77BON – David brings the latest and greatest techniques to a one-off finish for his entry to the Boden RESQ:D Canvas line. This unique one of a kind finish features glow-in-the-dark pigments and Day-Glo paints to create a finish that is as loud in the stage light as it is in the dark.

The Boden RESQ:D

What Makes It Special?

The RESQ:D models are guitars developed and produced from “rescued” guitar bodies. Many of our premium models such as the Standard NX feature natural or transparent colors that exhibit all the beauty of the grains and figuring but can also show the natural small blemishes such as dark knots and/or mineral stains. Although these blemishes or “defects” have no effect on the performance and sound of the instrument, they can be deemed unsightly in natural and transparent color finishes. Instead of scrapping valuable tone woods that are becoming more and more scarce, we decided to “rescue” them to develop and produce the most affordable .strandberg* guitars to date. Featuring a solid American Basswood body, this RESQ:D model features the EGS Rev7 hardware, Maple neck with carbon fiber reinforcement, Maple fretboard, our custom OEM pickups wound to our exacting specifications, and 5-way switch with master volume and tone knobs for exceptional playability and sound quality at an incredible value.

What Does It Do?

In short, the RESQ:D models do what all of our other .strandberg* guitars do: offer unparalleled ergonomics from the lightweight construction and the revolutionary EndurNeck, superb playability, and the outstanding sound quality and unique tone that make it versatile and flexible for any musical genre and playing style. The EGS Rev7 hardware makes tuning a breeze and keeps the guitar in tune through the most extreme string bends. The hardware also contributes significantly to the extremely resonant and woody acoustic characteristics of a .strandberg* guitar. The .strandberg* custom OEM pickups were designed, voiced, and wound to our exacting specifications to faithfully deliver the natural tonal characteristics of the guitars to the amplifiers and plug-ins, making it very versatile to cover anything from extreme metal, to mellow jazz, and everything in between.

Who Is It For?

The RESQ:D models are for the forward-thinking musician who wants the very best in electric guitar technologies but doesn’t need the aesthetics of natural or transparent color finishes. The RESQ:D guitars provide an amazing value with all the great features that .strandberg* guitars are known for. These guitars are for musicians who want a lightweight and ergonomic instrument that they can play for many hours at a time without fatigue and which they can take anywhere easily. The RESQ:D models will also appeal to first-time .strandberg* buyers who want to experience all the benefits that a .strandberg* offers but do not need premium features such as natural finishes and brand name pickups. It can also be a backup .strandberg* guitar for current .strandberg* owners of the premium models to use for practice or jam sessions. However this guitar is used, it is still a genuine .strandberg* that will inspire you to play your very best.

About his custom .strandberg* Boden swirl finish, David had this to say: It’s a mess of fluorescent acrylics for the art and then the back striping and cavities also use some glow-in-the-dark pigments from Stuart Semple mixed into the Day-Glo pigments for the neon pink. The process is an adaptation of centuries old acrylic marbling techniques that I spent a good clip of time at this point figuring out how to get the process to work on a guitar body – which is contrary to how the technique is supposed to really work (as in getting it to work on a non-porous solid surface that is primed and sealed presents some unique challenges). I loved the old school swirls that were on the Vai sig models and wanted to create something that was in that same vein of bright and obnoxious, but did it in a way that was a super thin layer of paint and would be resilient to taking a ding (as guitars tend to do) without it cracking like an eggshell (like the old ones did). Before the Ibanez run, I don’t think it had ever been done successfully on a guitar.   The body woods were originally milled for the Standard NX 6 Trem. This model have the following features: Solid American Basswood body with solid Maple top, Maple neck, Maple fretboard, 5-way pickup selector switch, and passive custom OEM pickups designed and wound to our specs.
