To start, I spent a lot of time looking for reviews of this guitar and really only found a few (and less than five for this specific model). I wanted to give my thoughts on the guitar, and I hope it helps somebody else make their decision. I had read a few reviews from people who didn't like the endure neck or the fanned frets, but I honestly hardly notice them. I do really like the flat planes on the neck as I feel I have better and more secure leverage for bends. Another concern is that the tuners are hard to turn, but I actually thought they're smooth and easier than the thumb screws on my floyd rose guitar. I also read reviewers saying that the build and finish quality was low for the price. This one holds some water in the sense that you can buy guitars with better finish details for the $2895 price tag of this guitar. That said, what you wont find in this price range is something as unique and well rounded as an instrument. The guitar looks and feels special, and this brings me to what I really love about it. This thing is a head turner. Its more sophisticated than some other flashy exaggerated body shapes. It looks both classic and modern without looking cheesy. It's just cool. And the shape is both aesthetic and functional. It's meant to be comfortable playing in multiple positions sitting and standing. It's the most comfortable guitar I've ever held. Part of that is due to the extremely small size of the guitar and the cut out shape, and part is due to the extremely low weight. Holding it, it feels stripped of anything unnecessary while also feeling complete. I have no complaints about the way it feels to play. The roasted maple fretboard looks and feels premium. The frets sound great and the fretwork is of good quality. The neck thru design is awesome and the fret access at the 24th fret makes me want to play more on that side of the fretboard. The Suhr pickups sound high end, but I'll probably replace the volume pot as it isnt as linear as I would like. I usually only play dual humbucker guitars, and I was a little worried about the center pickup getting in my way. Honestly the small adjustments I've had to make in my picking style are worth the tones of the middle pickup. It has 5 distinct and fantastic pickup positions and I find myself able to use these tones more than my other guitars with 5 way switches. Tuning stability is great and the trem never knocks it out of tune. I really love this guitar and would recommend it. If you're on the fence, I dont think you'll be disappointed.
Hi Aaron, thanks so much for the kind words and for the great review - surely others will find it helpful.
I’m extremely pleased with the playability and sound of this Boden Strandberg. I’ve found the angular neck to be very comfortable allowing easy access to the upper frets . My only adjustment has been not being more centered at the 5th fret , more like the 7th or 8th , which works fine for my playing. Setup was excellent, tremolo function great , light weight and comfortable.
I absolutely love this guitar! It sounds great, plays great, and looks fantastic! Other than the slight learning curve for being new to .strandberg* guitars, the overall experience has been outstanding!
Keeping this review as honest as possible, this is a great guitar, but it does have faults, none of which are production issues. Pros- - Stainless steel frets are great and I have no fretwork issues whatsoever - Great wood quality within the guitar - Great finish, great neck shape and playability - Excellent versatility via pickup configuration - Very lightweight - Parts feel high quality - Setup was perfect Cons- - Price. I have several guitars with similar specs that aren't nearly as expensive and are made just as well if not better. - The pickups aren't for everyone. I have a real issue with their harmonics when paired with a high gain configuration. They are also somewhat heavy on the bass end. These aren't bad pickups, but I don't think they pair well with a high gain setting. For everything else, they're great. Those are the only 2 negative things I can say about this guitar. It's extremely well made and I absolutely adore it, but I honestly do not feel it is worth the price tag that comes with it as a production model guitar. I would very much recommend anyone to pick this instrument up if possible, but there are options out there just as good for much less money. I don't want to give this guitar a 4 star review, because it is better than that. I'd give it a 4.5 personally. The only issues I have with the guitar are either easily fixable or not directly related to it's playability.
After becoming aware of some of the younger up & coming progressive guitarist and a resurgence of jazz/rock fusion music, I noticed Plini and his Strandberg signature model guitar. The more I researched the guitar and other artists playing the Strandbergs, the more I became impressed with the technology, the sound and intonation. I was a bit apprehensive as I have been playing a 1970 Gibson 335 and a Strat mostly in my career, but when my Strandberg arrived and I sat down with it, I was quite impressed with the ease of transitioning to the fanned frets and the "3-sided neck". The Suhr pickups sound fantastic and the tonal options with HSH configuration are fantastic. The stainless steel frets are a huge improvement over nickel and the roasted Birdseye Maple fingerboard is also an excellent upgrade. After playing this for 9 days, I'm finding it hard to pick up the 335 & Strat. I had my 1st guitar at age 9 and I'm now 66, so to jump into something that seems this radical in design and to realize how much I've been missing with Ola's forward thinking innovation is simply a wonderful revelation. I will be purchasing a Masvadalien Cosmo and an Boden Original 6 with trem later this year. Music is fun again!!!
“The new Neck-Thru models are an amazing step in the .strandberg* design, enhancing the ergonomic qualities of the instruments even further. With no “weak” spots in the entire tonal range, these new models are bound to expand your musical expression to new territories.”
