During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. - guitar conservatism
- midlife crisis
- guitar legend
The guitar is perfect. For me it’s my new Strat, but in a version Space X would also qualify for Mars flight (STRATosphere is so 1960s). I was first sceptical if buying this guitar at age 41 would be a sign of midlife crisis. Does it djent etc?! (I play clean hybrid picking etudes and atonal music on it mostly). Even sent it back in the first place due to this and some inherent guitar conservatism. But then I had the privilege to chat with an Avant-garde guitar legend from NYC. And I was surprised he played a Boden 8 string and totally loved it. Then I thought: Give yourself a push. I am happy. Thank you unnamed legend and master Ola for making my life as a guitarist a better one. Also thank you Gustavo Assis Brasil - you were a great influencer as well!
Thanks for the 5 stars, and for re-considering and challenging your original position! I assume you are referring to Elliott Sharp? Such a great artist! I hope you will continue to push boundaries and find inspiration in your Boden Original 7. /Ola
An instrument should inspire you to play it every day. That’s the experience I’ve had with my Boden since getting it. The guitar plays like a dream, produces a wide gamut of tonal options, and the Endurneck is super comfortable. The unique body shape makes for a few different ways to be played sitting down, and the instrument is unbelievably light. I really couldn’t recommend this guitar enough, I love it.
Thanks for the glowing recommendation, Robert! /Ola
I wish I bought one sooner. It is really a joy to play this guitar. Short review: Life is short want to play guitar comfortable and with no fuzz, stop and buy one. It's right out of the box, plug and play guitar. Long: First thing first craftsmanship is great no flaws to been seen (goes with the price). The second thing are the weird shapes neck and body. Headless: YES! a big yes for me because I always struggled to maintain the neck in the correct position. (the tuners on a head stock do have quite a bit weight to them) I'm not really bothered by the fanned frets, trapezoid neck and the puzzle piece body. The feeling I get is that the weird shapes becomes a part of your playing. I find this the most difficult part to review because "I am not you" so this guitar can be a hit or a miss. Thirdly is the sound. Due to a chambered body it makes the guitar light but also sound brighter. Most of the brightness of the sound comes from High Output Active Fishman pickups. The Fishman pickups sounds great the setup on guitar is on Volume knob the is coil-split and on the Tone knob there are two voicing. Haven't used it much to me it sounds like an mid-range booster but I could be dead wrong It doesn't matter what your playing style is or what your poison is. All that it matters is, that you want to pickup the guitar more than ever before. This Boden Original 7 Natural, this is the one for me. I really wish I bought one sooner. Thank you Ola and team for innovating this guitar. Ps. If the price still puts you off, but you really want one. Just ask yourself a few questions. 1 Can I afford one? 2 Will I play guitar enough to justify the price? 3 Do I like the guitar? 4 Do I want to learn/progress my poison on a strandberg? 5 How often do I want to play? 6 Am I willing to put time into playing guitar? 7 You can always try for 2 weeks no question asked policy. Yes it dependent on how much you want to play the guitar. That's it.
Thanks for the very helpful and detailed review, Patrick! I'm sure many readers will appreciate it. /Ola
Best guitar I've touched so far. Main selling point for me was ergonomy. I like to play guitars in classical posture with the neck pointing upwards. With a superstrat that is only possible having the guitar between the legs, and then the more load is on the left leg. But that is painful for me after a while due to medical issue in my left hip joint. Also related to that I tend to have pain in back and waist. But this guitar is so lightweight and well balanced, that every position is comfortable, but most importantly it can be played in classical posture laying on the right leg! Perfect! And the guitar is compact and short - regardless being a longer 26.25" 7 string. I feel it closer to me. I always preferred thin D shape shredder necks, but found that EndurNeck is simply better, love it. So natural feeling, really makes me think I always wanted this. In the past people thought that a good guitar neck can only be made of woods that are dried for decades and blessed by Tibetan monks. I guess here the material is carefully chosen as well, but I think technology (roasting and adding carbon fiber) wins. But there is so much more about this high quality instrument. Excellent fretwork, luminous dots, Fishmans, etc. Odd 'alienish' look, 'prog metal' vibe - for me at least :D. If I really want to show that I am unbiased I have to say sg negative, but I can only mention a few minor cons, like the string height at the body is a bit higher than I am used to (I rest the picking hand fingers on the body all the time), also fret access on the highest registers could be slightly better, but I'm fine since the neck joint seems very sturdy. Both no big deal for me. I think this is what a modern guitar should be like. Ergonomic and versatile. I still love traditional guitars, the look of a well shaped headstock, but maybe from now on only as decoration hanging on the wall...? Definitely will buy a 6 and 8 string version Boden in the future.
Thanks for the thoughtful review József, and I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the guitar! The design features you are enjoying are very intentional, so I am happy they they are appreciated. /Ola
I have had my Boden Original 7 Natural for about a week now. Outstanding quality. the instrument itself is gorgeous and feels amazing. it is the most comfortable guitar I have ever held, period. the tone is pretty good (for what I am looking for). I am not a metal head and will be using it for jazz primarily. I have been working on the tone with my amp and am pretty satisfied with where it is. It's generally a pretty bright sound. The intonation is perfect and the 7th string is everything I ever wanted, ha ha!
Happy to hear that the Boden Original 7 is working out for you in a jazz context. We aim to start with a great and versatile sound to begin with, and that you can then shape downstream whatever your needs are. /Ola
