During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. Having played 6-string for 20 years I was concerned about adapting to the extra strings and much larger neck. After giving the Boden 8 a workout I can say now that the ergonomics and design of the guitar are so good that I find it easier to play than my other instruments! I'll still keep the old Strat around because nothing can duplicate that sound, but if I'm not trying to capture a particular vintage tone, I will now reach first for the .strandberg*
Awesome to hear that the Boden Original 8 worked out for you and that the transition was smooth! /Ola
The guitar itself is great. I spent a long time deciding between this and a kiesel Vader. I watched a lot of reviews and saw pros and cons of both. So I emailed both companies to see who would be better to work with and Strandberg definitely came out on top. By the time kiesel had replied I had already exchanged several emails with Frederik at Strandberg and chosen my exact guitar model and had a great time. The shipping was no hassle which is great post Brexit. It arrived within a week (ordered Monday, arrived friday). When it arrived I originally thought it was broken since the sound was super quiet. Frederik went far above and beyond his position as customer service to help me out and get the guitar working again and I can't express enough how much I appreciate his efforts. It actually turned out not to be broken and turned out to not work with that one specific cable (that cable works fine on all my other guitars). I have no idea what the cause of this is, but if you get it and think it's broken, it could be it not liking the cable. I was concerned that I wouldn't like the endurneck or have a hard time getting used to the guitar (first 8 string, first multiscale) but honestly I got used to it in no time at all. The endurneck is ok, i am not head over heels for it like some are but I will say it's very comfy with an 8 string and feels thinner than it is (apart from for open chords but I like how the neck feels bigger there). The guitar shape was a bit weird at first but the more I play it, the more comfortable it is. I do wish it bevelled more for your right arm as sometimes it can feel like it's digging in a bit to your arm, but this also got more comfortable as my sitting position changed to accommodate it. All in all great guitar, love the cleans and love the 8 string sound. What I really really love is the customer service that Strandberg provided, especially Frederik! That man deserves a raise :D Can't recommend the company enough. Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful review, Philip. I'm happy that the entire process was pleasurable in the end! /Ola
This guitar is just amazing. Everything is perfect. I think every guitarists needs to try a strandberg to know.
I’m very happy with the instrument sounds and plays. The neck in particular is an incredibly impressive piece of design: Although noticeably different to play at first, I now find myself missing it’s contours and shape when returning to traditional neck profiles on my other guitars. I’ll be surprised if I don’t invest in another Strandberg at some point in the future!
K so I have been playing guitar since I was 8 (am 34 now), so thats some 26 years. I have owned many Ibanez guitars, and a few fenders. For a while I wanted to get the Music-Man JP15 but couldn't since I love my kids and getting them food was more important to me than buying guitars. Until this year when my sweet wife went and bought me not one, but two guitars in the same week: the JP15 limited edition Ball Family Reserve, and the Strandberg Boden Plini. I was mostly excited for the JP15, and the Plini was like a bonus b/c me and my wife really loved the look of the Strandbergs- headless, cutaway body shape, etc. So the day came when they both arrived, and I was BLOWN AWAY with the quality of the Strandberg!!!! No joke, literally blown away. The JP15 cost nearly double what we paid for my Strandberg, but the Strandberg surpassed the quality, playability, you-name-it of the Music-Man John Petrucci guitar- so much so that I immediately returned my brand new JP15 and ordered another Strandberg when it was available (this one the Boden Original 8). I LOVE MY STRANDBERG GUITARS. And I have owned an Ibanez JEM, Ibanez JS1000, and (briefly) a MusicMan JP15. My Strandberg's blow them all away. Also they are the sikkest looking guitars I have ever seen. My Strandberg acquisitions have been life-changing. I am playing more than I have in the last 10 years, my kids all want their own strandbergs, and my wife wants to start playing as well with a strandberg of her own. I cannot say enough great things about Strandberg guitars, except that I can absolutely and unequivocally promise you that if you get one you will be as blown away as I was.
