During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. Unbelievable! I´m never going back to play a 6 string guitar ever. It´s just the instrument I´ve been looking for decades. flawless.
I'm happy we converted you to an 8-string guitarist, Rafael! /Ola
You're hitting 30, working 16 hours / day (including weekends) at a hedge fund, but these goth girls kissing at your first live still linger in your dreams? Well, Mr. Strandberg has a guitar for you! Case fits right in a business-class seat over Atlantic, thing stays in tune after flight, and all f# are killing and in place the moment you pick it up right before routine death in lonely cold bed of foreign country. Tight, transparent, can pronounce every chord Toby Driver would be jealous of and make NYC condo finally wish for 7K/month less than for your eviction! 7/10 leasing agreements terminated by mutual agreement.
Hahaha, nice one! Thanks for the 5 stars, Vladimir. /Ola
Dear readers and (maybe) Strandberg fans, this is a bit of a longer story, so please grab a hot chocolate on one of those comfortably cozy northern winter nights and bear with me…. I remember the time when I first saw a Strandberg guitar in a web store of a very well known European retailer - oh boy, lemme tell you, it was love at first sight. The multi-scale approach coupled with the headless design and the unique body contour made my guitarist heart beat faster. When I took a closer look, disappointment set in: Oh hells, THAT much for an Indonesian-made instrument - oO - better keep the paws off that one. All the Indonesian-made instruments I checked out in the past didn’t fulfill my expectations of a proper instrument, especially certain Cort instruments were purest horror and thus „to-be-avoided“. So, no Strandberg for now! Some weeks later I had the chance to purchase probably the last of the Swedish Custom Shop 7-string Bodens directly from the Strandberg Euro store. A wonderful and masterfully built instrument. As I didn’t feel good about playing such a valuable instrument live with my „bar band“, I took the plunge and ordered an Indonesian-made Boden 7-string from the Strandberg B-stock with the promise that I could return it in case it didn’t fulfill my expectations. Guess what, it never left for Sweden again and it’s my main live guitar nowadays, it completely changed my mindset about overseas manufacture, at least in regards to Strandberg. The company has its own production line inside the Indonesian Cort plant and it seems to me a lot of time, patience and personal involvement by Mr. Ola Strandberg went into training the Strandberg-exclusive (?) Indonesian luthiers to build instruments of this quality level. That’s also the reason why I chose this Strandberg 8-string Boden which honestly feels even a little bit better to play than the 7-string, I get the impression that they improved the neck finish a little bit on this 2020 model. Everything I like about my Seven also applies to the Eight, just with an even more extended range: The craftsmanship in regards to fretwork, wood and finish is remarkable, and even unplugged, this chambered beauty resonates beautifully. The Fishman Fluence Modern pickups offer a wide tonal range and seem to be the perfect choice for this modern instrument. Thanks to two different voicings and a split, the Fishmans outperform every other active pickup I’ve experienced so far. The patented Endurneck feels as comfortable on this 8-string as it does on my 7-string, it feels naturally comfortable and will always be my personal neck-design of choice. How does it fare against my Swedish Custom Shop model? There are slight differences - ranging from pickups to finish to wood selection and how the neck feels - but then again, it’s a joy to play all of them and no matter the origin, all of my Strandbergs feel like Strandbergs. And honestly, if I had to choose between my Indonesian and the Swedish Strandberg, I’d probably take the Indonesian one as it offers a wider tonal variety. Now comes the best part: The Indonesian-made Strandbergs are the most consistent guitars I have in my collection. As both body and neck are not as „open-pore“ as - for example - on the Swedish Custom Shop model, they are less prone to humidity- and temperature-related effects that would change the neck tension and thus affect string action and tuning stability. Electronic-wise these guitars never failed me, the only important thing is to unplug them when they are not in use, else it will drain the 9V battery for the active electronics… Bottom line: Both my seven- and eight-string Indonesian Strandberg Boden Originals are top-notch, absolutely flawless guitars that offer a huge tonal variety thanks to a highly refined production line and state-of-the-art Quality Control. In addition, Peter from Strandberg HQ is a friendly, welcoming and polite person to communicate with in case you need support or information. Unfortunately, the Strandberg site design only allows five Star reviews, so I have to award the SIXTH STAR for my 8-string Boden IN WRITTEN… Enjoy every day of your life and stay safe!
Thank you very much for the great and very detailed review, Martin! I'm happy to hear that you could pick up on all of the hard efforts we are making to keep our production quality high and consistent. It doesn't come automatically! /Ola
I received my beautiful Boden 8 original black and...it is simply OUTSTANDING. Ergonomics top, super light, deep tones on lower notes and clear on higher...it is a joy in motion to spend time with this guitar! Really seem like the first time you enter a Tesla: is this the future ? Thank you for your amazing tech, this is my guitar passion Renaissance!
Thanks for the 5 stars, Gabriel! You hit the main points we are aiming for. /Ola
This is the most comfortable guitar I ever played. The shape of the body is perfect for how it fits to the leg in the two most common positions to play guitar, there’s nothing in the way when you play the highest fret, the endure neck is just genius, and it’s so super light and compact I can play it standing for hours without getting tired or feeling pressure on the shoulder. I love its sound too, when plugged directly in the amp in clean I can feel in my finger the sound resonances across the whole guitar, and I can get a fat round sound as well as a more crispy and acid one in no time at all
Thanks for the 5 stars, Riccardo! Great to hear that the body shape and ergonomic features are working out for you. /Ola
