I was blown away by the feel and look of the .strandberg Boden Original 8. I also own a Boden Plini edition and these guitars are worth the price. I rarely have to tune these guitars, they hold tune perfect. The tone is beautiful and action/feel is remarkable. I highly recommend.
I love my Strandberg Boden 8. It feels great to play. It looks awesome and inspires me. The endurneck ironically makes me notice how uneven other guitar necks are. I can tell this was designed and crafted with feel in mind, however I think a few things would improve the guitar overall. 1. The knobs and pickup selector switch need to be further from the bridge and strings. I am a player that loves to palm mute my high strings with chords just enough to get a nice purr out of it, similar to chugging on the low strings. The position I need to have my hand in order to do that is further than someone may think it would be. I end up running into the knob even with a great picking posture with my hand, I need it flat for palm muting up there, the outside of my palm hits the knob. When I'm sweeping a chord in the same fashion, my ring finger will hit the pickup selector switch, which is also distracting just like the knob. I think even people with smaller hands could run into these issues if they're looking to get this type of sound out of their guitar. I understand the switch might be away from the area when playing the high strings, but I like to play where the bass is the loudest followed by mid and then treble, so my switch is always pulled towards me. 2. The zero fret is too soft in that the highest string digs into it right away. I noticed it after one day of owning this instrument. Then, If I do a bend on that string, there is an audible and visible clicking sound that happens because the string is popping in and out of this crevice it has created. That's it! Those are my only criticisms of this guitar. I think they're super important when it comes to how easily I can express myself while I'm creating music. I can see it getting some people down that there isn't a ton they can do about these issues without modifying their guitar. I would position the knobs next to each other down in that lower corner where on knob already is. The pickup selector go on either side of the knobs in that corner making a little triangle down there, just far enough for the playing room needed, while not changing too much. I wish the strap could go even shorter, I am 6'1" but it's not short as what I'm used to. The design of the strap is really great though. Feels good and fits the guitar. Thanks a lot for reading! -Sam
Thanks for the great constructive feedback, Samuel. With the smaller body style, and having removed a lot of the control cavity to give room for the leg carve, there are some inevitable compromises to be made. We'll keep this in mind for future revisions. If you are not using the tone control (which many don't), you may try just letting it dangle (isolating it first) in the control cavity and move the volume knob there, which will free up some room.
My guitar plays, looks and feel flawless. Its such a joy to play it, i can play for hours and hours and not feeling tired in my hands.
Easiest I ever played. The guitar is SO LIGHT ! You don't have to change your posture to accomodate the instrument. Bye bye low back pain. Endurneck never felft weird or anything : your thumb will find it's natural position immediately. Materials are gorgeous. Specially fond of the flamed maple neck, the paint finish that's not over the top and the dots that glow in the dark. And finally : mics on my 8 strings are awesome !
