Solidbody construction with the same key .strandberg* design and features

The Boden Standard

What makes it special?

The Boden Standard was developed to provide great majority of the premium features found on such models as the Original, Prog, and Fusion but with a solid American Basswood body, Quilted or Flame Maple veneers on a solid 5 mm Maple top and our own specially designed pickups. The result is a lineup of guitars that provides all of the distinctive characteristics and key features that the Boden guitars are known for at a superb value for the working musician. All Standard models feature Roasted Maple necks and fretboards with the EndurNeck profile, Luminlay face and side dots, Jescar stainless steel frets and the innovative .strandberg* hardware as on all of our guitars.

What does it do?

The combination of Basswood with a solid Maple top and Maple neck/fretboard is considered the “Holy Grail” of electric guitar wood combinations by many top guitar builders and artists alike, producing an ideal balance between warmth, punch, brilliance and sustain for an extremely well-rounded sound that’ll excel at virtually any musical genre or playing style. Our pickups were custom designed and wound to our specifications to bring out the best acoustic properties of the woods and hardware for a very balanced and rich sound through any amplification system.

Who is it for?

The Standard models are for players who do not require high-end features such as chambered body, 4-A grade figured top/fretboard, and name brand pickups but require the same premium look, sound and features that provide the performance they need as well as long-lasting value. Like our Classic models, the solidbody construction offers a different type of feel and sound than the chambered-body guitars but still delivers the trademark .strandberg* clarity, articulation, sustain, and warm woody character that our guitars have become known for.

The Boden Standard Series guitars were developed to provide the same key features that our guitars are acclaimed for but with solidbody construction, our own design pickups, and figured Maple top veneers to reduce costs and offer a line that delivers outstanding value as well as top flight performance. The solidbody has a distinctively different kind of sound and response than the chambered body and it isn’t better or worse: just different and a matter of personal preference.

The body consists of solid American Basswood with quarter-inch Maple top capped with either Flame or Quilted Maple for a balanced and punchy tone that is superbly complemented by the roasted Maple neck and fretboard. One of the classic wood combinations espoused by top custom guitar builders and world class artists alike, Basswood/Maple body and Maple neck/fretboard combo provides the ideal balance between warmth with full-bodied richness and strong high-midrange with sweet singing treble.

The new .strandberg* OEM pickups were designed and wound to our exacting specifications to deliver a wide range of great sounds from vintage clean to over-the-top high-gain distortion. The figured Maple veneers ensure a stunning look while the solid Maple top underneath works in conjunction with the body back wood to add brilliance, tightness and punch. Overall, the Standard Series guitars are no-compromise instruments you can count on to deliver the performance you expect from a .strandberg*.

During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. Fantastic instrument.

I was initially not sure about the guitar, it took me a couple of hours to get used to the enduro neck, and the right arm contour is not very comfortable ( which I understand has been improved on NX models ). However it has quickly become my favourite guitar to the point that I’ve lost interest in most of the other ones, including some high end and custom made ones. The boden just plays better, sounds better and intonates better across the neck than all of them. It sounds very precise and even across the strings and frets, but also very balanced tonally. I love the fact it’s also so portable and easy to take to places with the small gig bag. This has been a real revelation and I’m now thinking of selling some other guitars and having more Strandbergs instead.

Boden standard 6

By far my favourite guitar. I find myself using it anytime I want to just riff away and work on ideas. I'm now waiting on the thru neck model to add to my collection!

All it took was one guitar to convince me I was a better guitarist than I believed

I've played for 15 years with the same guitar I started learning music with back in the day. It was a very low budget one but I got so used to it that I never realized how terrible that guitar really was until I put my hands on a Strandberg guitar. But surprisingly, I did play with other models occasionally from Fender to Gibson when given the chance, but never was impressed. When the time finally came I had enough money for a new guitar, I was really intrigued with Strandberg. Everything about their guitars appealed to me: from the headless design to the cuts in the lower body, the fanned frets, and of course, its atypical neck. I decided to go for it blindly. I just wanted to make that model mine. And spoiler alert: I love everything about it. And I will list everything I love about it: - Maple Flame design: oh boy. It looks so much better in real life. I was sold by the visual on the photos but I am just in love with how it really looks in my hands. I'd describe the colour like a coal black. It's matte but reflects light in a very cool way, looks even greyish sometimes. I'm biased because I just bought it but it's definitely one of the prettiest guitars I've laid my eyes upon. Really, really happy with the colour choice. Bonus: the fretboard is darker than in the pictures, and it ROCKS. Love my fretboard way more than in the photos. - Headless: first a headless guitar looks really cool (if that's your thing of course). Second: days of hitting a wall, a stand, or a person with your guitar head are OVER. Sounds absolutely trivial, but I'm surprised by how much more comfortable I feel moving around with a headless guitar. - Fanned frets: Again, first of all it looks neat. Kind of mesmerizing to be honest. Then, you play the guitar, and surprise! your fingers just fall naturally into place. No adjustment time needed. I had 24 frets as well with my previous guitar but I've never be so comfortable playing in the higher frets. I caught myself multiple times being surprised that I was already playing at the last fret and that I couldn't go any higher. - Body design: Yet again really cool design, I really dig it. But it's much more than an aesthetic choice: first, it allows playing comfortably in many different positions. I've tested standing up, sitting on a chair —relaxed or classical style, on a couch, even lying down! It all felt great and practical. Like every cut in the design allowed for these positions. Bonus 1: the curve just below the volume and tone pots even allows the guitar to seat vertically on your thigh (even while standing up! think "your foot on your monitor" position), perfect for tapping! Like you're playing a chapman stick. Bonus 2: the jack output is so perfectly well placed. Well protected (it won't move or be hit while playing) and it's facing upward so that your jack goes directly through your strap. Genius. (Although I found that in a classical sitting position it felt kind of unpractical) Endure Neck: Probably the feature Strandberg seems to be the more proud of. And for good reasons: it is pure genius. I have no idea how they came up with that idea, because it kind of seems unpractical and weird at first sight. Turns out my thumb has never felt so good on a guitar neck. Be it right underneath in a classical style or wrapped around the neck relaxed style, the curves of the neck are perfect for both and for transitionning between both positions. And finally my most favourite attribute of this guitar: its WHEIGHT. It is so light and it's really unsettling, even after a few weeks. But it is. such. a bliss. Moving around freely, jumping, dancing... your guitar follows your arms and your body with no resistance, as if it was part of you all along. THIS is when the magic happens.

Just perfect

I expected it black, I received it dark green! No problem, this color is amazing and the different woods matched perfectly together. I’m 66, suffer from back pain and was at the point of giving up my practice when I heard of Strandberg guitars. Low weight, very confortable and well balanced, and no more back tension. Since a few weeks, it really changed my life. Everything is ergonomic on this guitar. You can hold it and play it in any position you like. I quickly became used to fanned frets and endured neck which are great innovations. This model is very versatile, has a great playability and a very good quality in workmanship. It came to me with no default. Even the bag is of the best quality. A hard case would have been a heresy to protect such a light guitar! My only problem: Strandberg has no stand for this guitar and I don’t want it hang on the wall. I hope this will be solved soon. (sorry, if the guitar is perfect, my english is not!)

The Boden Standard Concept

Unique Qualities

Anatomy of a Strandberg

There are many design elements and factors that comprise a .strandberg* guitar. Each aspect - from the materials and components used to the ergonomic design features - has been carefully thought out and implemented to produce a guitar that is light weight, easy to play and has a big woody organic sound. Explore these different aspects that set a .strandberg* guitar apart from the rest.

By removing weight from the headstock, your guitar can be made very light and yet balanced. You can play with greater comfort for longer.

Versatile Body Shape

The body shape provides multiple seated playing positions for maximum comfort and versatility.

Scale Lengths Adapted to You

A multi-scale design allows your wrist to remain relaxed throughout the range of play. A longer scale length for the heavier strings provide better tone, and shorter in the thinner strings better playability.

Patented Neck Profile

Our patented EndurNeck™ profile promotes a more correct playing position. The result: you can play longer, faster, better and avoid injury.

Space Age Materials

Our hunt for great tone and low weight led us to using aircraft grade aluminium and carbon fiber for maximum performance.

Proprietary Hardware

The custom .strandberg* hardware is a vital contributor to the tone of the instrument. Lightweight aircraft grade aluminium and tight coupling of components ensure that nothing prevents the strings' vibrations from entering the body.
