More than a mere “bass version” of the acclaimed Boden 6-, 7- and 8-string guitars that we are known for, the Boden Bass was developed from the ground up to meet the requirements of the most discriminating and demanding professional bass players.

In many respects, the concepts developed for the Boden guitars – especially the extended range 7-and 8-string guitars – are ideally suited for bass design and construction. The idea is to lengthen the scale of the low strings for tighter tension to provide a more defined and punchy sound in the lower register. The concept not only worked for improved sound but also for enhanced ergonomics by improving comfort and reducing fatigue in the fretting hand.

Over 4 Years of Refinements and Improvements

These successful design ideas and concepts were then applied and refined during the development of the Boden Bass over the past 4 years with numerous prototypes that were tested by world class bassists around the world. Through constant experimentation and countless revisions of the instruments as well as the hardware, the Boden Bass has finally reached its end goal of becoming an exceptional musical instrument of the highest caliber.

The final touch was developing a close working relationship with Nordstrand Audio to install the best possible pickups and electronics to deliver the natural, organic and woody acoustic characteristics of the bass to the amplification systems. The result is an instrument that is as comprehensive and versatile as it is minimalist and elegant. Steve Jenkins

Steve Jenkins is part of the new wave of modern electric bass players. In addition to his mind-blowing technical prowess, his musicianship has allowed him to fit into a diverse range of musical situations that have run the gamut from face-melting prog-metal to experimental microtonal jazz-funk to dubbed-out electronica bass lines to classic sounding r&b grooves–sometimes all within the framework of one song. He also has a strong grasp of using effects and technology which makes him a true sonic force to be reckoned with. Whether playing as a sideman or as a leader making his own music, Steve is known for his beyond solid groove, creative use of cutting-edge effects and textures, melodic/virtuosic solos, and mastery of different tones and techniques for any given musical situation.
