During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. The new flagship of my guitar fleet!

I just wanted to take a second and say I’m very impressed by .strandberg*’s costumer service. I will start off by stating I originally bought a different original 6 that I wasn’t entirely happy with, so I ended up returning it. In the past, when dealing with other companies where a lot of money was on the line, I felt those companies alway tried to pressure and bully me into keeping something I wasn’t happy with, regardless of what their return policy stated. That wasn’t my experience with .strandberg*. After I said I wanted a return, they jumped on it, and I had my return shipping label sent to me in hours. They were both very kind and honest in emails, and though I tend to roll my eyes when companies say stuff like this, I’ll be honest and say they definitely made me feel like they really cared about me getting the product that I would be happiest with. So I immediately put down payment on another brand new original 6, and I’m glad I did. This is my second .strandberg* in three months time, the first one being a standard 8 Refurb that was the literal definition of perfection. I’ve quickly come to realize that the ergonomics are everything to me. I want to be in my 80’s and still playing comfortably, so if these are the guitars that will make that future happen, then I’m all in. For the guitar itself, the fit, finish, and comfort are all perfect. The Endurneck is a blessing on my 8-string, and though I can see why some may find this neck profile not as necessary on a 6-string due to the smaller stature, I personally love it and feel it has corrected my hand positioning a lot. You’ll either love or hate the neck profile if I am being quite honest. The combination of the swamp ash chambered body and Suhr pickups are also an unstoppable juggernaut of force. In the end, this guitar is phenomenal, and I’m glad to have it in my arsenal. That said though, the standard 8 Refurb I first bought was as I said the definition of perfection, and this new original 6 doesn’t quite get to that same level, for there are a few minor flaws...that is a shame for this guitar was about $700 more. First, there is one tiny bit of rough fret-work on this guitar. It’s rather minimal, and not too much of a nuisance, but it’s still there and is all I think about when my fingers catch on it every once in a while. Secondly, the tuning stability of this instrument isn’t quite at my standard 8’s level of greatness, which was perfect right out of the box. It should be noted, the original 6 is still miles ahead of any other guitar I have...so still not really a big deal. I’m hopping that as the guitar adjusts to the much more humid climate that I live in, these two things will correct themselves as the wood expands and settles. The last thing I will say is my guitar came with a rather noticeable level of pickup tilt: neck pickup tilting towards neck, bridge pickup tilting towards bridge. Maybe I’m lucky, but in all the humbucker based guitars I have had over the years, I have never experienced this. The foam underneath the pickups is clearly not doing what it’s suppose to. Maybe I’m just super entitled, but I’m a little surprised to see that wasn’t fixed up before the guitar was sent to me. For a $2,200 asking price, I probably shouldn’t have to be replacing or fixing anything on the guitar right out of the box. I can’t say with confidence that it prevents the guitar tone from reaching its full potential, for it is still out of this world when it comes to that. But I think it does suggest that it has the possibility to sound even better than it already does when I replace the foam. .strandberg* did get in touch with me and said they are switching to a new foam for their pickup mounts in 2021, so hopefully anyone reading this will not have to worry about this at all. Even with those few minor flaws, it’s still hands down the best and most comfortable guitar I own, I guess .strandberg* just spoiled me with the level of perfection that my standard 8 holds. The original 6 is a wonderful, versatile guitar that I would recommend to anyone. I love playing all styles, but playing jazz is what puts food on the table. The guitar is perfect for the more modern types of jazz, and though I never expected it to be a replacement for my arch-top, I must say I can get a tone out of this guitar that still works pretty well for the older, more traditional styles of the genre. To anyone who is STILL reading this, just buy one and try it out, you got nothing to lose! I love my .strandberg*’s with all my heart, and I very much intend to add a classic 6 and Sälen to my collection somewhere down the road!

Thanks for the detailed review, Grace. It makes me very happy that the efforts we are making on the customer service front are not going by unnoticed. You make some good points about quality expectations at this price point, and we certainly take them on board, and are constantly working to improve - which is the great aspect of selling direct: we hear about these things at the earliest possible stage. This entire industry suffers from long lead times, so we want to do what we can to keep them as short as possible. Also, I'm thrilled you're getting a good jazz tone out of it. I totally believe in starting with a guitar that has great versatility and tone, and then you can shape that into any music style downstream. Thanks again for the 5 stars! /Ola

Unique Qualities

Anatomy of a Strandberg

There are many design elements and factors that comprise a .strandberg* guitar. Each aspect - from the materials and components used to the ergonomic design features - has been carefully thought out and implemented to produce a guitar that is light weight, easy to play and has a big woody organic sound. Explore these different aspects that set a .strandberg* guitar apart from the rest.

Headless

By removing weight from the headstock, your guitar can be made very light and yet balanced. You can play with greater comfort for longer.

Versatile Body Shape

The body shape provides multiple seated playing positions for maximum comfort and versatility.

Scale Lengths Adapted to You

A multi-scale design allows your wrist to remain relaxed throughout the range of play. A longer scale length for the heavier strings provide better tone, and shorter in the thinner strings better playability.

Patented Neck Profile

Our patented EndurNeck™ profile promotes a more correct playing position. The result: you can play longer, faster, better and avoid injury.

Space Age Materials

Our hunt for great tone and low weight led us to using aircraft grade aluminium and carbon fiber for maximum performance.

Proprietary Hardware

The custom .strandberg* hardware is a vital contributor to the tone of the instrument. Lightweight aircraft grade aluminium and tight coupling of components ensure that nothing prevents the strings' vibrations from entering the body.
