Raising the bar for modern prog and instrumental music

Plini

Explore

One of the most promising and highly acclaimed new guitar players and composers to burst onto the crowded prog-metal and instrumental guitar music scene in a long time, Plini – hailing from Sydney, Australia – combines masterful guitar virtuosity with a highly developed sense and style of composition that has won a dedicated following all around the world.

Primarily a self-taught player and writer who was inspired and influenced by legendary artists such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci and Guthrie Govan during his developmental teen years, Plini also embraced a wide range of musical genres to inform his compositional style. Soon, Plini started recording and releasing his own compositions on the Internet and quickly developed a large underground following.

Much more interested in writing compelling compositions than displaying impressive guitar technique, Plini has garnered an international following with superbly crafted songs that are memorable and appeal to a broader base of fans than just other guitar players. Plini’s meteoric rise through the Internet underground soon created a burgeoning demand for live performances and he was soon on the road touring opening up for international acts such as Cynic, Tesseract, Between the Buried and Me, the Intervals and Animals as Leaders.

Plini’s highly acclaimed trilogy of EPs and the numerous singles released in the 2014~16 period were followed by his first full-length solo album titled ‘Handmade Cities’ in 2017 and Steve Vai described it as “one of the finest, forward thinking, melodic, rhythmically and harmonically deep, evolution of rock/instrumental records I have ever heard.”

Having graduated from University of New South Wales with a Master of Architecture degree, Plini has always had a keen interest in industrial design and guitars that were innovative and forward-thinking. This interest led him to discover .strandberg* when he tried out a Boden 7-string backstage after an Intervals show, which prompted Plini to contact .strandberg* and the rest, as they say, is history.

Plini’s first .strandberg* was a USA Custom Shop Boden 6 with a fixed bridge, which made its video debut on his ‘Ko Ki’ single. From there, Plini added the Boden OS 6 Plini Limited Edition and used this guitar exclusively for over a year before collaborating with us to develop the ‘Plini Edition’ model that was introduced in 2017 and is now his main instrument for both recording and live performances.

We are extremely proud and pleased to work closely with one of the most exciting young artists in the prog/metal scene today and look forward to future collaborations with Plini to continually develop groundbreaking new instruments that will aid in furthering his blossoming career.

Simplicity, understated sophistication, and broad tonal range for the prog virtuoso

The Boden Prog 'Plini Edition'

The Boden ‘Plini Edition’ features chambered Swamp Ash body with a Maple top for a superbly balanced and punchy sound with Australian Blackwood veneer top that Plini specifically specified in a nod to his home, roasted Maple neck with Ebony fretboard accented with his trademark moon inlay at the 12th fret, Suhr SSH+ and SSV pickups with a 3-way switch since he only uses those three sounds, one volume pot only since he never uses the tone knob, and the EGS 5 Pro tremolo system.

I got a Plini, didn’t know what i had bought. Didn’t know anything about Plini, the neck, or .strandberg*. Just looked like a cool guitar. I’m selling all my guitars today so I can buy another .strandberg*. These have changed the way I think about guitars. J.S.
