Sälen Classic Trans Butterscotch

Sälen Classic Trans Butterscotch

SKU: SL6CT-18C-M-S-TB

The Sälen is the .strandberg* take on the legendary first solidbody electric guitar from the 1950’s: not a mere copy of this iconic guitar that changed the history of music but a thoughtful and innovative design that balances the best of the tried-and-true traditional with the thoroughly modern concepts that our guitars are known for. The Sälen is at once familiar and strikingly bold, vintage and futuristic, yesterday and tomorrow.

Sonically and tactile response-wise, the chambered Alder/Maple body Deluxe has a great middle pickup sound while the solidbody Classic Trans Butterscotch has a beautiful snap due to the Ash body and Maple board combo while the Classic Ice Blue Metallic exhibits the same type of snap but with a little fuller sound due to its Alder body and Pau Ferro fretboard. The Sälen Deluxe models will provide nice warmth and roundness due to the chambered body and make the bridge pickup less piercing on the high notes so there’d be no need to roll back the tone knob.

The .strandberg* take on the legendary solidbody

The Sälen Classic

What makes it special?

The Sälen is the .strandberg* take on the legendary first solidbody electric guitar from the 1950’s: not a mere copy of this iconic guitar that changed the history of music but a thoughtful and innovative design that balances the best of the tried-and-true traditional with the thoroughly modern concepts that our guitars are known for. The Sälen is at once familiar and strikingly bold, vintage and futuristic, yesterday and tomorrow.

What does it do?

To get this natural organic character to the amplifier clearly and faithfully without compromise, the Sälen features the Suhr Classic T Bridge and Neck pickups. These pickups are amongst the most acclaimed in the industry for providing the characteristics of the best vintage pickups while taming other less desirable artifacts like too much treble or not enough output. The result is a full yet biting and raunchy bridge pickup and a warm and smooth neck pickup that provide a surprisingly wide range of great sounds with both clean and overdriven amp settings.

Who is it for?

The inspiration from which the Sälen sprouted from sparked a musical revolution that still resonates today, and we sought to take this inspiration to a new level of look, functionality, ergonomics, sound and playability. Incorporating our lightweight headless design, multi-scale multiscale, the patented EndurNeck, and aerospace-grade hardware, you get all of the features that a Strandberg guitar is acclaimed for but also with the look and sound that conjures up the glorious eras of guitar-driven music, from classic rock to pop and country to jazz.

Sälen Classic Trans Butterscotch features a solid Alder body and Roasted Birdseye Maple fretboard. During the course of manufacturing of this guitar model, the color of the roasted maple has varied to some degree. The wood is roasted to achieve the desired properties (tonal response and dimensional stability in different weather conditions) and not to a certain color. This means that the color sometimes does not match that of the product photos, which were taken of the first produced sample guitars. We are working on a revised process and acquiring new equipment for roasting maple that will give us greater control of the results, which should be in place in early 2021. Until then, if you have any concerns about the color of the roasted maple neck or fretboard before ordering, please reach out to us through the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we will be happy to send you a photo in advance, or talk you through the process. For more information about roasted maple, and colors, please see: https://support.strandbergguitars.com/article/95-how-dark-is-roasted-maple

Unique Qualities

Anatomy of a Strandberg

There are many design elements and factors that comprise a .strandberg* guitar. Each aspect - from the materials and components used to the ergonomic design features - has been carefully thought out and implemented to produce a guitar that is light weight, easy to play and has a big woody organic sound. Explore these different aspects that set a .strandberg* guitar apart from the rest.

Headless

By removing weight from the headstock, your guitar can be made very light and yet balanced. You can play with greater comfort for longer.

Versatile Body Shape

The body shape provides multiple seated playing positions for maximum comfort and versatility.

Scale Lengths Adapted to You

A multi-scale design allows your wrist to remain relaxed throughout the range of play. A longer scale length for the heavier strings provide better tone, and shorter in the thinner strings better playability.

Patented Neck Profile

Our patented EndurNeck™ profile promotes a more correct playing position. The result: you can play longer, faster, better and avoid injury.

Space Age Materials

Our hunt for great tone and low weight led us to using aircraft grade aluminium and carbon fiber for maximum performance.

Proprietary Hardware

The custom .strandberg* hardware is a vital contributor to the tone of the instrument. Lightweight aircraft grade aluminium and tight coupling of components ensure that nothing prevents the strings' vibrations from entering the body.
