strandberg* Boden 6 Neck-Thru is one of the most interesting and exciting piece of work I've had pleasure to hold in my hands. Paint job and overall finish is beautiful and flawless, I couldn't find a single dent or scratch anywhere when I first opened the package. Colour is delightful and I like it very much. Design and build is out of this world. There's no unnecessary sharp corners or edges, everything is soft and smooth as it should be, like a piece of art. Besides being gorgeus it's also functional. EndurNeck really does what it advertises, it is more ergonomic than traditional neck design and it feels comfortable in my hand, making long sessions slightly more enjoyable. Of course the fanned frets make it even better. I really have to tip my hat to Ola Strandberg for EndurNeck. I hope that it will inspire other guitar manufacturers to re-think some basic technical aspects of guitar design as well. Almost forgot, those little marker dots on neck glow in dark, nice. The body of Boden is also well designed and it feels good and easy to play in all positions, thanks to the smartly positioned arches. You can feel string vibrations resonating from the body which is very welcomed feature. Feeling the music you're playing is definitely one of the best things you can experience. The whole guitar is ultra lightweight, almost like air, and neck-body weight ratio is perfectly balanced which is really beneficial when playing standing since you don't have to hold up the neck nor does it rise too high. Tuning machines are looking good and they're tight enough so you don't accidentally detune the guitar if you hit them. Changing strings was quite easy even though I wasn't familiar with this kind of string system before. Jack plug is slightly tilted upwards and to the back (I don't know how to describe it better verbally), propably so that the cord would be in a little better position when playing. This may not be the best jack plug position, but it's not bad. And once again, it's good to see that someone is re-thinking basics and trying to make instruments better for their users. I use lots of effects when I play, but of course I had to test the sound without pedals and the sound this guitar, its strings and pickups produces is crystal clear, full and satisfying. And it really doesn't matter if you're playing with distortion or not, it's still crystal clear, full and satisfying. Complete sound. Overall experience is praiseworthy. This was my first .strandberg* guitar, but it will most certainly not be my last.
Thanks for the great review, Sakari! You really touch on a lot of the aspects that were conscious design decisions, like having the guitar resonate against your body as you play - the catch phrase from the early days is "Feel better - sound better", which encompasses all of this. /Ola
Sorry guys, I hit the wrong number of stars in my angry dragon who ate a rabid tomcat then got acid poured on his hemoroids, review.
No worries, great to hear that it was meant to be a 5!
Very well made guitar, impeccable, comfortable. This is a very versatile instrument. I play Jazz, Blues, R&B, Rock, and lotsa Latin music on it. Rolling off the volume and pulling the volume knob I get tasty single coils that are very organic. Rolling off in humbucker mode gives a thicker sound, with good note articulation. Driving up the volume it screams like an angry dragon that ate a rabid tomcat while having acid poured on it’s hemorrhoids! Fluence p/u’s 🤩.. The neck and 25”-25 1/2” scale does exactly what Strandberg says : tight bass, bendable bottom strings. This neck feels best to me with balanced tension strings. I would add that the carve of the back of the neck has quickly impressed into my muscle memory position reference to the point of eyes closed, almost automatic, playing. I wasntSwitching from one Strandberg model to another, the neck plays the exactly same. I have a Salen too, for the Tele stuff. Thank you, Mr. Strandberg, for deciding to apply your talents to guitar manufacture.
Miguel, thanks for the detailed review - it sounds like 5 stars to me!
“The new Neck-Thru models are an amazing step in the .strandberg* design, enhancing the ergonomic qualities of the instruments even further. With no “weak” spots in the entire tonal range, these new models are bound to expand your musical expression to new territories.”
